As part of the technological partnership, BMW Group supplies the Solarwatt company with high-quality battery components from the MINI Electric battery module paired with BMW know-how. The new battery storage "Battery flex" was developed from this collaboration. The new storage system from Solarwatt sets new standards in terms of technology and design with the BMW Co-branding "in cooperation with BMW i". The storage system can be obtained from Solarwatt-certified premium installers from autumn 2021.
This product incorporates the extensive BMW automotive expertise as well as Solarwatt's in-depth storage know-how: The new home storage system enables homeowners with a photovoltaic system to safely store the electricity they generate themselves during the day with the power of the sun and use it when needed. For example, in the morning and evening hours, when the electricity demand in the home is typically particularly high, but the sun does not generate enough energy on its own. “Battery flex” can thus maximize self-consumption and significantly reduce the costs for the power supply by the network operator. With the new home storage system, electric vehicles can be charged ecologically and economically with solar power using an intelligent energy management system.
The topic combines e-mobility and photovoltaics and shows that BMW thinks and lives the topic of e-mobility holistically and not limited to automobiles. This supports the BMW 360 ° Electric Story and makes a proactive contribution to sustainability.
The common goal is to further develop customer-centered and sustainable solutions that allow the areas of photovoltaics and e-mobility to grow together and to help reduce CO2 emissions, as Detlef Neuhaus explains: “E-mobility and photovoltaics are simply inseparable. Because only if as many electric cars as possible are charged with renewable electricity, such as solar power, the change to electromobility does make ecological and economic sense at all. This is the only way we can make the world a little better."
That is why the BMW Group assumes responsibility here and now: “When developing the battery modules for our electric vehicles, we pay particular attention to sustainability as well as high energy density and efficiency. It is very important to us that our supply chains comply with all environmental and social standards. Therefore the BMW cell modules with their special properties are ideal for use outside the vehicle, too. We are pleased that, through our technological partnership with Solarwatt, we can make an additional positive contribution to further merging photovoltaics and e-mobility,” says Dr. Eric Hamm, Vice President System Industrial Customers and Remanufacturing of BMW Group.
