In March 2019 it was announced that INEOS Automotive entered into a powertrain technology partnership with BMW Group, which will result in the supply of BMW’s 6-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol and diesel engines for the forthcoming 4x4, the INEOS Grenadier.
Thanks to this technology partnership with BMW Group, INEOS Automotive will offer Grenadier buyers the best choice of powertrains, fusing durability and reliability with the latest innovations and emissions standards.
Combining rugged British spirit with German engineering rigour and offering no-frills utilitarianism, complete purity of purpose, unquestionable authenticity and ultimate engineering integrity, the Grenadier will be a working 4x4 that supports a varied mix of customers around the world, from Africa to Australia, Asia, Europe to the US.
The INEOS Grenadier design was revealed in July 2020. Built from the ground up on an all-new platform and designed on purpose were “Form follows function”: namely to meet the demands of its future owners for a rugged, capable and comfortable go-anywhere working vehicle.
“The brief was simple. We set out to design a modern, functional and highly capable 4x4 vehicle with utility at its core”, said Toby Ecuyer, Head of Design. “A design that is ‘easy-to-read’, with no ambiguity about the Grenadier’s role in life. There to do everything you need, and nothing you don’t. Nothing is for show. Modern engineering and production techniques ensure the Grenadier is highly capable, but we have been able to stay true to the essence of creating an utilitarian vehicle that will stand the test of time”.
The first INEOS Grenadier prototype was on display in September 2020 at the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace, London, playing a supporting role to the INEOS Automotive’s collection of legendary off-road vehicles.
Prototype testing of the Grenadier is now fully underway, with the aim of accumulating 1.8 million kilometres on- and off-road over the coming year. Sales are planned to start in markets worldwide from the end of 2021.
We from the BMW project team are looking forward to continue our support for this exciting project.
About INEOS Grenadier
In 2017, INEOS Chairman Jim Ratcliffe, a car enthusiast and experienced adventurer, identified a gap in the market for a stripped back, utilitarian, hard-working 4x4 engineered for modern day compliance and reliability. INEOS Automotive Limited was formed and a senior team of automotive professionals assembled to bring the vision to reality with a fresh perspective of 4x4 development and manufacturing.
